Mallorca kennen alle. Palma kennen alle. Und die Kathedrale kennen auch alle. Aber bisher immer nur von unten. Denn lange Zeit wurden die Besucher von der Treppe im Glockenturm, die im Inneren des Gotteshauses auf die Dachterrassen führt, vehement fern gehalten. Dabei ist das Dach der Kathedrale einer der spektakulärsten Orte in Palma. Zum einen weil man in schwindelerregender Höhe auf Tuchfühlung mit der einmaligen Architektur gehen kann und zum anderen weil es wohl keinen schöneren Rundumblick auf die Hauptstadt der Insel gibt wie von ganz oben zwischen den Giebeln.
Der Weg dorthin ist allerdings anstrengend und nichts für Platzangsthasen. Die Wendeltreppe windet sich 70 Stufen bis zur ersten Pause hoch. Der Glockenturm wurde im 15. Jahrhundert gebaut und besteht aus drei Teilen. Im ersten Raum haben früher Menschen gelebt, das bezeugen die Graffitis an der Wand.
Über 200 Stufen später steht man dann Turmgeschoss, wo an den Holzbalken die alten Glocken der Seu hängen. Dann geht’s raus auf die Dachterrasse und zum Auge der Gotik, der Hauptrosette der Kathedrale. Wer die Rosette auch von Innen bestaunen will, sollte am ersten Dienstag im Monat um 12 Uhr zum Orgelkonzert kommen.
